Does Increasing the Riskiness of Choices Widen Gender Gaps? | Management Science

We find men more likely to ask, no difference in outcomes conditional on asking -> better returns for men (in Norway)

And it's a bit odd since I think a Jewish Avrohom is more likely to vote for a Republican than a Jewish Abraham.

What conclusion do you draw from the "blue" names? Says to me that there are not many Orthodox Jews in America and they only live in a few places, but not much about polarization.

Yeah, I guess I was thinking of it as if 1 is yes, trouble; if 1 is no, that's what I expect; if 1 is the complicated option, then it should be explained elsewhere (though should does not always mean is)

The aspredicted form for preregistration

Don't know why it is a word doc and that is weird, but I would bet is based on aspredicted form where Q1 is plausibly not very informative and Q2 is hypotheses

"Decisions under risk may be driven by similar psychological mechanisms to decisions under complexity" is definitely a worse title

Armed government agents went to the home of a lawful resident of the United States without a warrant and arrested him over the content of his speech. This is a five-alarm fire for civil liberties.

Comes in handy to have a record. I don't go back and update it unless I visit a place again, so there may be some defunct shops. Hope it's helpful!

It could extend to those kinds of risks since we think it's related to risk seeking in losses, but most of what we study are things like gambling and lottery tickets which tend to be more negative. I'd also be looking for more work on why we saw so many new businesses during the pandemic.

New paper: We combine evidence from a survey (correlational), bank spending data, and online experiments to show that job loss increases risk taking.

We have new paper showing how changing the risk for regrade decisions affects the gender gap in asking using data from Norway that can identify differences in asking specifically.

1zpresso zp6. I had a passable electric grinder in the office and had intended this just for travel, but I liked using it so much it became every day. Had harios hand grinders before and the zp6 is just a joy to use

I meant the niche. Haven't used the mignon.

I do pourover in the office and got a hand grinder. Are you going espresso in the office?

It's good, though I found that it produces more fines than I would like ideally for pourovers.

1 December 1942 | A transport of 532 Norwegian Jews deported from Bergen arrived at #Auschwitz. SS doctors sent 186 men to be registered in the camp. The remaining 346 people were murdered in a gas chamber.

Among them were Olga Wulff and her daughter Doris.

Does Increasing the Riskiness of Choices Widen Gender Gaps?

How did changing the riskiness of a choice impact the gender gap in willingness to ask? My new paper in MS with Alex WillΓ©n finds gender gaps widen, which benefits men more. The gap is likely driven by gender differences in beliefs.

I had a great time writing this paper. Alex (www.alexanderwillen.com) is a fantastic economist and coauthor. His core labor work is great, and you should check it out! I also fulfilled a goal of using the fun Norwegian data (hoping to do it again).

Our results shed light on the way that gender differences in economic primitives can interact with the policy environment to produce disparate impacts. There is much more to do on why some people take up opportunities and others do not.

1) We show direct evidence of learning from prior regrade outcomes
2) Using heterogeneity in the original grade, we show regrade requests follow the changes in expected value
3) Using an online experiment, we show gender differences in directly elicited beliefs matter most

01.12.2024 00:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Instead, our data is most consistent with gender differences in beliefs about regrade outcomes or confidence.

01.12.2024 00:36 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

We rule out that our results can be explained just by gender differences in risk preferences using a simple structural model. Heterogeneity by original grades also suggests that gender differences in loss aversion cannot account for our results.

Regrade requests overall increase after the policy change, but men increase their requests more than women. The gender gap, which existed in the pre period, widens by about 90%. Men and women earn about the same points per request, so after the change men receive more grade points from regrades.
