Socialism is what they called public power.

Socialism is what they called social security.Β

Socialism is what they called the growth of free and independent labor organizations.

Socialism is their name for almost anything that helps all the people.

No matter what happens today in the mayoral primary, let's make a commitment to ourselves and each other that we're gonna stop saying "We did it, Joe"

UAW Local 2110 Requests Abrams Unionization Vote The union, which represents workers at HarperCollins and the New Press, has petitioned the National Labor Relations Board to allow Abrams employees to vote on unionization.

Check out this piece in @publisherswkly.bsky.social about why we're unionizing!

Big news! We’re forming a union with Local 2110 UAW. In unionizing, we stake our claim in shaping the future of Abrams: a more equitable, ethical, and transparent working environment.

Trade unionists everywhere, defenders of the Constitution, of freedom of speech, of academic freedom, and of the right of free association, should be appalled and disgusted by the behavior of Columbia University, and should take it for the clear signal it is.

It is no accident that this comes days after the federal government froze Columbia’s funding, and threatened to pull funding from 60 other universities across the country. It is no accident that this firing has occurred the day before contract negotiations begin.

Post by Hamilton Nolan: Straightforward illegal action that in 2024 would have been blocked by the NLRB but in 2025 the NLRB is effectively shut down. Expect much more of this.

Response by Laura Harshberger: I understand the frustration and anger to see layoffs the day after a unionization announcement, but to immediately connect this to the Trump NLRB feels like fear mongering and unnecessarily chilling for the thousands of workers who are still organizing their workplaces.

The NLRB has at no point in the last 20 years been a magic wand waving institution that prevents illegal layoffs. We have no idea how the current board and regional offices will handle ULPs or hand down rulings. We should not comply in advance! Organize your workspace.

Moreover, by drawing this connection we are ignoring the agency, bravery, and solidarity of the workers at SW who chose to organize a union in the face of great uncertainty. Anyone paying attention knew things were bad; Sesame Street has no distribution home. Solidarity.

I try not to cross-post comments posted on The Other Site but I’m breaking that because these comments from UAW organizer @laurzard.bsky.social about Sesame Street announcing layoffs one day after the announcement of a Sesame Workers’ Union and why we shouldn’t assume they’re connected are good ones

Very reminiscent of how men were talking about Anthony Weiner in the 2013 mayoral race before the Carlos Danger stuff broke. We actually don't have to give predators second chances in electoral politics
