It really would help all of us if Trump clips came with an automatic Jennifer Coolidge voice filter.

A chart of "Major concerns of PhD candidates." The top text says, "Financial pressures top the list of concerns faced by PhD candidates, but concerns differ among the sexes. Those studying in the United States rank the political landscape as their main worry." The chart shows that in the full survey, political landscape is the biggest concern for about 20% of students (a bit higher for women than men) but there's an annotation saying "In US PhD students, this rose to 64%". Overall, the highest-rated concern was financial pressures at around 40%.

That's quite the chart annotation.

Amazing- love that- I have to look out for that. I loved how Inside out 2 portrayed emotions in teenagers (and I could relate to anxiety A LOT!)

Neuroscientists: which films do a pretty decent job in being scientifically accurate when it comes to the brain (including sci fi grounded in neuroscience)? I’m making a watchlist!

Hey everybody! @drjuliawester.bsky.social and I have a new paper!

We surveyed over 800 scientists, science communicators, and science educators who use social media.

Conclusion: Scientists no longer find Twitter useful or pleasant, and many have switched to Bluesky! πŸ§ͺπŸŒŽπŸ¦‘

The fact that the thing we're calling artificial intelligence *can't do math* and yet we're jamming it into programs that successfully *have done math* for decades, then warning people against using the AI to do math, seems like an excellent summary of where we are.

BREAKING: A federal judge in Massachusetts (the Reagan-appointed William Young) has declared the Trump administration's cuts to NIH grants β€” ostensibly over Trump's EOs on gender ideology and DEI β€” are "illegal" and "void." He's ordering many grants restored.

Correct. This was an easy test for media outlets and many of them failed horribly. No need to give them yet another chance.

You know the old joke. What do you call 9 polite Germans having a nice dinner with a Nazi? A Nazi and nine people who create the feeling of safe harbor for far-right elements who unabashedly or in coded language express antisemitic sentiments.

A bird's-eye view of a former Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp showing a wide dirt pathway flanked by parallel rows of barbed-wire fences. Groups of visitors walk along the path, surrounded by the remnants of brick structures and barracks, now reduced to foundations. Green grass contrasts with the somber history of the site, as the path leads toward a guard tower in the distance.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.
