If there’s one thing I’ve learned from living in the Midwest, it’s always keep an umbrella with you no matter what the forecast says.

At the last minute she turned and said "enjoy your wedding," then walked out the door.

But then, a few seconds later, she stuck her head back in and said:

"Actually, no. I don't want the last thing I say to you to be about your husband. I hope you have a great summer!"

When the class ended, I said my goodbyes, trying my best not to get choked up, and the students started to leave.

The last one out the door was a female student who I particularly enjoyed teaching and chatting with at the end of each class.

Really can't emphasize enough that Character.AI is a predatory company profiting off of vulnerable children and if you're a teacher using the platform - or other LLMs - to "talk" with fictional or historical figures just stop.

I just read through a manuscript I recently submitted to a journal and found the phrase "...is an important consideration to consider." 🤦‍♀️

Once humanities professors start quoting ChatGPT generated notes about theory in grad classes, this thing that we do is completely over. Either we're modeling lateral thinking for future professors or the humanities should be shut down.

I took a fascinating class on the rhetoric of the nazi regime in grad school, and I remember the professor explaining why people SHOULD read Mein Kampf today to understand the mentality that led to Hitler's rise to power. It's entirely possible she was reading purely for educational purposes.
