23.12.2025 11:31 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0That's how I did in Unity! Though working with visible characters in Unity is a nightmare itself.
I made a custom effect that affects only alpha and then ran it through the string like a caret.
What dialogue systems are people using for #godot? I've been using ink for like 10 years and wanna explore more. Editing in text is best, but visual editing is fine too if it allow multiple nodes per node. I guess twine-like would be a compromise.
Don't care about localization atm. #indiedev
Big milestone for me in #godot learning. Finally managed to set up my karaoke text to work.
It's wonky execution (moving bbcode like a caret) but it works!
Definitely more straightforward then Unity.
Off to figure out weird celshading now.

Your gentle reminder that my courses are currently available as just written lessons which is the bulk of theory content.

Working on a thing regarding player interpretation in narrative design after a discussion in a ND chat.
What's your take? How much do you think ND should leave to interpretation? Does it become a mistake for ND to do that at some point?

Heard a bunch of slander on the Cloud Dancer color. Not on the choice but on the color. It's a toilet paper or uncooked dumplings and so on.
It's literally the color of the sky above my hometown. You'd better watch all of my skyboxes becoming this.
Watching a video on forced perspective with moving camera and thinking about recreating it in #Godot.
Part of the sentence above is very stupid.
Oh and the convo was about how to make different default settings for Animation Tree transitions in GODOT. Cause all advanced expression I wills set to auto and all xfade timers will be 0.3s.
So if you can point me to the documentation part or something, please do.
Have to add though that 0.3s transition from pitch black to bright white is better than instant flip. I'm photosensitive (mildly no seizures) and if there is a little tiny transition I don't feel like it's a stroboscope (sample size just me here.)
07.12.2025 16:27 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Off my hand use cases:
Cut TO and FROM
Appear/disappear on screen.
Crossfade for animations
Time between frames on flipbook animations
I dunno, maybe somebody finds it useful.
Was quite surprised in convo with friend that my default number thing was not as common as I thought. Sooo
Basically whenever I need fast animation, the duration is always 0.3s and then tweaked in RARE chances when it doesn't work.
Can't remember the source. But it's so ingrained in my head.
As someone who both organized and witnessed some of Damien's teaching. I have made the recommendation in good faith with high praise in mind.
Sure there is a curse involved, but the material is so well thought and improvised matter is at times even better.
Get Damien to talk to your students!
My Narrative Design Lessons bundle is now live!
You can get at least a book worth of ND foundations, dialogue design, and experimental tools. All come with a free lesson.
