it's just kind of a sad fact that we can't have a feel-good tv show that also portrays the realities of the characters they choose to write. at least Ted Lasso was mostly honest about football club culture, inequality, etc. (tho I'm probably forgetting some of its omissions too)

Sam wouldn't have time for all these side-quests and opportunities for growth if she had to spend most of her time making ends meet, helping her elderly/disabled father run his farm... she definitely wouldn't be able to just quit her job because of one moment of personal revelation

it does kind of a bang-up job of highlighting all the ways in which financial hardship makes all of these warm, nourishing, beautiful moments tough to come by... Joel couldn't be there for Sam as often as he is if he had to work, or couldn't afford so many carefree cocktail hours,

severely late to the party and still on s1, but, more shows about regular, remarkable people performing heroic acts in ordinary circumstances (but yknow you could throw in some economic realities I promise it won't harsh the cutsie lil vibe you've curated)
