Marc & Steven & Jake

They have their hour, and then Marc agrees to get some rest. He wakes to find the sun high in the sky and wonders if Frenchie is back yet.

Marc gives a happy sigh, once again amazed that he could find someone who dotes on him the way Frenchie does. He only wishes they could have figured it out sooner. In any case, they have time to make up for today. "Good. And you're perfect, too, amour."

"An hour would do," Marc counteroffers. "Then I can sleep knowing you still love me." He smiles prettily and bats his eyelashes.

"Make me." Marc looks at him with adoration and affection, both. Because he feels all the things for this man, his one and only.

"You'd better not," Marc says, squeezing him. "I better be the only one to smote you." And he appreciates the humor, too.

"Just don't get smite....smoted...smitten?" Marc isn't sure how to say it, but he knows he doesn't want it to happen.

Marc nearly purrs. He loves it when Frenchie plays with his hair. "Is that why you always threaten to give Khonshu a piece of your mind?"

"I'm sorry I make you worry." It sounds flippant but Marc means it. He has some idea of what Frenchie goes through waiting home for him.

Marc flops on top of him. "No time like the present."

"Yes, sir." Marc sketches a salute and then grins. "Even if I think you're only doing it so you can spend the day in bed with me."

"Then it's no wonder you call me that." Marc smiles fondly. "You've always watched my back."

"Isn't that what 'amour' means, though?" Marc asks. "It means I fret. I worry about you. Will you allow me to do that?"

"Better. Still a bit shaken." He rubs his forehead, the remnants of a headache still lingering. "I wish I could give you some of the suit's power, though. I hate sending you out there with no protection."

Marc chuckles. "Why do you worry that I worry? That's what love is. I trust you, too."

"Of course I mean it. Did you think I would change my mind?" Marc squeezes his hand. "Am I worried about you? Of course. But I also know you know how to handle yourself."

He beams at her. "Good. That's the whole idea. And maybe someday I can walk you down the aisle and make it official."

He cocks his head. "You are a superhero," he says as if it's the most obvious thing in the world. "With or without the cape, you are."

Hopefully her husband in real life, too, someday. Khonshu will have to figure it out. United, the four of them (3 plus Layla) will make him. "I do?"

"Yeah." Marc reaches for Frenchie's hand. "I know my life counts now. I didn't know that when I was younger. Why would I? But my point is that we wanted to do good in the world, and now is our chance."

"Especially since I'm not terribly proud of what I did after I got out." Marc looks down now, ashamed.

"He wasn't the only reason you signed up, any more than my parents were the only reason I did. I wanted my life to count for something." He strokes Frenchie's hair. "This is one way to do that."

Marc shrugs it off. "There are worse things in the world than to fight for justice. Who knows, you might start to find meaning in it, too. Isn't that why you joined the Legion to begin with? To protect the innocent?"

Marc would, of course, agree with him on his assessment about gods. There is only one god in Marc's religion and Khonshu's existence hasn't changed that. "I couldn't begin to psychoanalyze him. The doctors at my old hospital would have fun, though."

"I can't speak for him, but I imagine he'll be thrilled. There's a reason he calls me his Fist. Lots of punching involved."

"You won't annoy him if you throatpunch people for him. He forgives a multitude of sins, even yours, if you do his bidding." Marc is mostly joking but there's an element of truth - and bitterness - to it.

Marc kisses him back. "I'd give you a list of names but I don't want them turning up missing," he jokes. "You're going to be busy enough with me doing Khonshu's dirty work."

"That's what makes you special," Marc says, enjoying their embrace. "Not everyone knows all of me. Not everyone would accept me, knowing who I am."

Marc cocks his head. "Do you mean all of me? Like the parts of me who answer to different names?"

"That's because you are, my love." Marc gazes into his eyes. "I don't know anyone else who would put their neck on the line for me."
