Always had a fascination with this line and the other short Yorkshire lines. Some where I have one of the last Metro Train timetables for the branch.

Farage lied when he said he was too ill to appear for the BBC interview on Sunday.
The Heartland Institute, whose party he attended instead, doesn't believe in tobacco harms, climate change and seeks the dismantling of the NHS.
Be warned. If you care

Such a tragedy. Compare with the achievements in Paris at the Notre Dame.

Panel One.
Two figures walk up a hill in a park. One walks in front and the other is walking a dog

Front "My new year's resolution is to stop lending books"

Dog-walker "Really?"

Panel Two.
Front, becoming agitated
"It's just not worth the risk: cracked spines! Bent corners! Torn pages! Grubby fingers! Crumbs! Baths! Burglars! Rats! Children!! I can't allow such precious artefacts to fall into the careless hands of clumsy philistines!"

Panel Three.
Dog-walker "And how do the other librarians feel about this?"

Front "Less supportive Than I'd hoped."

One of those captcha things. This one says β€˜select all images with bicycles. Click verify once there are none left’. There are 9 squares - 4 contain photos of bicycle seats, with the remaining 5 showing the beautiful head and face of a grey greyhound with a white stripe going from the top of their head to the tip of their nose.

Hats off to whoever did this (and the beautiful model).

Manchester Ship Canal, a 36-mile waterway linking the city to the Mersey estuary, opened for traffic on this day 1894. Eventually Manchester became Britain’s third busiest port. (Punch cartoon ridiculing the idea)

A marvellous advert from the famous "Schweppervescence" series of adverts that ran for many years for Schweppes drinks, the famous and long-lived brand. It is a fine piece of '50s graphic design, issued in 1954, and shows a wide range of the company's products around a groaning Christmas table.

The artwork is by the noted artist and illustrator Sheila Robinson (1925–1988), a member of the Great Bardfield Artists group who mostly lived and worked in the vicinity of the Essex village of that name.
