- Surviving, just - nice glass of wine after a hard day's work
- Distinctly rundown - lovely cocktail is spirit-raising medicine
- Ill enough to need to drink / too ill to be hungover - portioning whisky carefully
- Health is returning - hello, tequila
Gorgeous banner - good luck βπ»

23.11.2024 11:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That all said, Iβve been writing for a living in various ways for ~25 years. Iβm not really that precious about it. Itβs my job. I know that lots of writers feel very differently.
23.11.2024 11:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Thatβs interesting. I havenβt particularly noticed that among my students but perhaps the difference shows in relationships? Iβd find anyone needing that level of affirmation about anything quite hard to live with, I think.
23.11.2024 11:41 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I never discuss the details of my writing with them & in the same way we donβt talk about the minutiae of their jobs. I also wonder how interested the OP is in the detail of his wifeβs work. Does he pore over her presentations/emails/reports? Listen avidly to accounts of that pitch or case she won?
23.11.2024 11:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Writing just isnβt interesting to huge swathes of people, is it? Iβd say the majority of my (non-pub ind) friends & most of my family havenβt read my booksβ¦ www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2024/nov/17/my-wife-glazes-over-when-i-talk-about-my-writing-how-can-i-come-to-terms-with-her-indifference
