Reminds me of the cringe I feel when I see the Supercell CEO talk about how Clash of Clans is a "unique European hit" like Minecraft or Witcher 3.

I would amend to say product/business people within tech companies

There are many monolingual people who just do not understand language and that you cannot 1:1 map them from English.

I read an Andy Weir book recently where the character translates an alien language and it was very clear the author had no idea about translation or foreign languages

My goofy pinball game regularly gets quite a lot of "this needs to behave more like a real pinball table" or "you should add more features that pinball tables have"

and they use language I barely understand lol

That being said, it was a REALLY fun experience, and I'm grateful that I had half a year to sink into this project full-time.

I have learnt a lot, and definitely ready to apply it all to the next project which will be far more ambitious than this one!

There's also so many charlatans ready to sell you "engagement" and I fear for my more inexperienced and optimistic fellow devs who fall prey to this nonsense.

The indie space is even more crowded and intense than I thought. It's also rampant with either toxic positivity or what I call the "seagulls fighting over the last chip" mentality where the crowd are constantly telling you how to market, what metrics to monitor etc.

Learnings?

Pinball is such a polarising format. People either love everything to do with it or are completely indifferent. Those that DO love it are also very opinionated about how it should be done. I fear there is not much room for innovation if you still expect some kind of audience!

It's more concise than "chock-a-block" so I don't see the issue

I find it *fascinating* when people give some harsh / direct feedback and I reply on Reddit/Discord/Steam forums and agree and thank them then they IMMEDIATELY soften their tone and act a little flustered that they are actually being heard.
