“Flora – Fauna – Fungi” An ECO24 Microfiction Contest Write a short piece of speculative ecofiction (up to 300 words) inspired by one of three photo prompts, and e-mail the piece to darian@apexbookcompany.com. The submission period for this contest will run from September 5th-25th, 2025. The top three stories overall will be voted on among Apex and Violet Lichen staff, and the winners will be published on the Apex blog, as well as sent a bookmark and a copy of ECO24: THE YEAR’S BEST SPECULATIVE ECOFICTION upon release day!

I recently bought The Artist's Way book and plan to do the program for the next 12 weeks. Has anyone tried it?

Tomorrow, February 28, let’s disrupt the status quo by spending ONLY at businesses that uplift our communities.

That means:
🚫 No gas from corporate giants
🚫 No fast food chains
🚫 No big-box retailers (Target, Walmart, Amazon, etc.)

One thing I've been doing is donating to my local community fridge every two weeks. Because it's winter, I donate mostly soup cans. It's not a lot, but it's something I know helps my local community directly. And that it's the first step of many.

I saw an acquaintance on FB saying the TikTok ban couldn't come soon enough and how TikTok shortened people's attention spans. Past me would have said something but I'm tired and don't have energy for people who want to be ignorant. Unfriended and moved on with my day. 😎

Surprisingly, I spend more time on Reddit now that TikTok is banned lol

I'm done with my final exam!!! No more thinking about algorithms and can focus more on writing!!!

I have my final exam for my computer science class Analysis of Algorithms tomorrow and then I’ll be free to write so much more!!! 👩🏻‍💻🌟🦋

My mom brought me a Korean copy of “Pride and Prejudice” as it’s my favorite Jane Austen story. My Korean reading level is elementary so it’ll take me a while to read it, but I’m so excited!! 📚❤️

Rest is so important. There was a time where I couldn't write while dealing with a family emergency. I gave up writing for a while and read books or watched shows instead. I let myself deal with the crisis first and when I was ready, I started writing again.

I've noticed how in my 20's when I told people I wrote stories, their response was "That's great!". But in my 30's, some people will say "You're still writing?" Just because I'm not published (yet) doesn't mean I gave up. 😂

I've been a writer my whole life and I've learnt that those days you don't feel like writing, those weeks where you make no progress, those months where you haven't thought a single creative thought... they pass. Don't obsess. Have faith. It comes back. #WritingCommunity

Writing Tip:
I can never repeat enough that all writers should have a saved copy of their work that isn't on the web/cloud. As safe as you think it might be, outages happen. Technology can glitch. The last thing you want is to lose months of work. Back it up!

To be fair, I did about 3 ten minute sessions spread out over the day. Every time I had a bit of a break, I decided to do a short session. That seems to work best for me.
