I get that, and they still dont get it right with all the extra time they have, but it wasn't the pundits (Alan Shearer) calling for it. Technology was always going to come in, they have implemented it poorly and it needs improving and that is what pretty much all the pundits are saying...

VAR was meant to improve the game and take mistakes out - who wouldn't want that?? What's actually happened is simple decisions get forensically checked and the referees have lost the ability to make decisions without a safety net (today is a perfect example of that). I don't really get your point

Agree on all of this. Was saying the same to a mate tonight, we're years off being anywhere near City (Arsenal, Liverpool) really.

Slump busters? Because we've lost to 3 of the top 5 in the past few weeks? Other than the odd defeat (Bournemouth for Liverpool, Man Utd for City and Everton & Arsenal for Villa) they've all been winning their games. We've only lost those 3 games in the last 10

I agree, one way or another we need to forge forward this year, we have the potential but there is still a lot of work to do on the squad as a whole. I think we need 4/5 really good signings and probably the same need to leave - if not a few more

I might be contrary to most but I genuinely dont think its for lack of effort. We're in a tricky mid point of our evolution, we can't attract the big names or compete on wages which means we have to be careful with our targets and our January spend to make the most of summer windows and PSR/SCR

It's a tough one, if we had the squad, you'd punish that behaviour and approach to games but we dont have that luxury and our 'big game' players have to be included in the 'big games'

Exactly, history tells us we weren't getting anything tonight. As Eddie said, disappointing to concede how we did but overall some positives to take I think. Will always baffle me how certain players' performances drop off so much for the 'lesser' games though

Yeah, like I said though, difficult game to come into late on. It was frenetic, end to end stuff mostly. Arguably the changes should have been made 20 minutes earlier when we were still in it rather than waiting till we were 3-1 down and they were more comfortable

Agreed. Never a 4-1 game. They were much better after we scored and deserved the win. Thought the tactical setup actually worked well and, like you say, would have worked in other games. They were just too good for us overall tonight.

Tough to come in to game like that with 20 mins left when we're 3-1 down. None of the subs did anything.

We woke them up when we scored and from then they were the better team but we did all those 👆 things.

I dont think I've ever once mentioned xG but it is a metric everyone in football uses and has more value than an arbitrary table of net spend under current managers 🤷‍♂️

Probably one of the most irrelevant stats out there. All over different amounts of time (Pep 10+yrs, Amorim 18mths, Frank 6mths) When EH took over we had a Champ level squad destined for relegation, that net spend has brought us back into play but its not enough when there was nothing for 14yrs

It's good to see Botman getting back to full fitness and form as well
