Doggo update - she had a successful surgery. It turns out before we rescued her, she sustained a high level of trauma. She likely was abused or hit by a car.

It took many years for her hernia to develop this bad. But they were able to fix her up. She’s resting at the hospital now ✨

I am angry and saddened and emboldened. My college’s leadership is just bowing down and adhering to the letter received. The penalty of pulling federal financial aid to students is too high.

And yet, our non-white students will suffer the most. In the name of “equality.”

We also have to change our strategic plan, and I likely need to pull various demographics from all my dashboards.

Students will suffer. Higher education will suffer.

Yet none of my state’s democratic elected officials have anything to say about it.

The President is now radically changing the higher education landscape to specifically target BIPOC students and other minorities.

I’ve gotten my first request to remove the race/ethnicity column from our At-Risk students list.

We have to pull scholarships and curriculum.

My dog, Dolce, is in the emergency vet and need surgery. I’m shocked. We took her in because she was throwing up and couldn’t keep anything down.

My mom has been going through things slowly, and found she had a “greeting card organizer” where she could store cards for birthdays and holidays each month.

I work at a community college.
My president laid out our ICE protocol, and I loved what he had to say:

- we are not government employees
- we will NOT violate FERPA
- if someone claiming to be an ICE agent asks about a students’ schedule or where/what time classes are, the answer is “I don’t know”

This is a great point. When I did use ChatGPT, it was usually for work in refining SQL queries or tableau calculated fields. It was really easy for me to learn how to refine my question and ask for edits on the spot. Easier than sifting through forum posts from 5 years ago

Maybe my toddler is just a wild child. She screams at us for bananas and the Moana soundtrack all day long. If she sees a computer she is going to find a way to put her hands on it. I have to hide from her when I use the bathroom or else it’s OVER. She needs attention at all times (as she should 💅🏻)

I say this with love and as a pro-work-from-home person: how are y’all working full time from home, and also being the primary caretaker to an infant or toddler? I do not get how that is possible without plopping them in front of the tv all day.

So another piece is the education piece - they really do not understand what a LLM is and how it is different from a search engine.

I’ve stopped using ChatGPT because of ethical and moral reasons, and I find that some people actually don’t even understand it isn’t google. They get confused at why it would include fake books in a list of fantasy recommendations, for example.

Validated and is a good, true source of compiled information. Just the other day my husband used it to get a list of good Portuguese language learning sites.

Even if it wasn’t, wading through multiple articles to get good answers is tiring.

Because ChatGPT’s model tends to respond in a kind, authoritative way, people really do think it is (cont)

I think people are really exhausted. For many reasons. Could be long COVID brain fog, neurodivergent burnout, capitalism burnout etc.
