1/ Here's my take on what's happening with DOGE.

I've got fed experience through contracting with Health & Human Safety, Head Start, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and DOD. I get brought in when people need to get shit done. Other people here have way more experience than me.

Austin single-stair update: we have a clean five-story legalization, all the poison pills have been taken out! services.austintexas.gov/edims/docume...

We will be working hard to get this to six stories, but take a look at this from the public engagement summary. That's you! That's us! We did that!

On Saturday, batteries set a new record in ERCOT, supplying 9% of power on an evening w/ high thermal outages & low wind. Prices spiked to near the max for 5 minutes, 4,300 megawatts of storage surged onto the grid (and demand went down ~2,000 MW) & things went back to normal. (h/t @gridstatus.io

Republic Tower under construction in downtown Austin

Seeing β€œP17” labeled on Republic Tower made me wonder… what’s the highest parking spot in Austin? With β€œparking podiums” all over the place, surely there’s somewhere you can drive even more than 16 ramps to park your car?

HEB appreciation post: my dad withdrew $100 from an HEB atm, and left it in there. Next time he went back to the store, he asked about it.

A customer had turned it in, and they had held onto it for someone to claim it.

This is the sort of thing that only happens in Japan and, apparently, HEB.

Anecdotally, I think boomers might be a surprisingly big market for this. E.g. my stepdad came to me for a recommendation because his friends had convinced him it was unsafe to use the internet without one.

But will this work on my relative who proudly displays his City of Burleson Planning Commission certificate in his office, and still talks about the townhomes he blocked in that role 20 years ago?

Introducing AI with Web Search & Internet Access

Wavelength intern Mae Zhang launched a major improvement to our AI assistant today: integration with web search so that it can converse knowledgeably about current events!

It goes to show how much we use β€œwrites coherently” as a proxy when evaluating level of intelligence. This has been true long before LLMs: bullshitters who wrote well got more respect than people who wrote truth, but poorly constructed.

I proposed a SXSW panel on social applications of AI and LLMs. We'll talk about how we make these models accessible at both Wavelength and Logictry, and potentially a few other companies whose representatives might join the panel. Please give it a vote! panelpicker.sxsw.com/vote…

I’ve gotten a lot closer with people in my local running community than I would have without it, as well as staying close with folks who are no longer in the same city.

Strava’s the only 100% positive social network I’m on. Post a strong performance: people pile on the kudos, πŸ”₯ emoji, etc. Post a tough workout that didn’t go like you planned: people pile on the kudos and say β€œyou’ll get it next time!” Never seen a negative comment there.
