Where do you stand on giant Jenga
15.11.2025 17:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Make your city the kind of place a sports team wants to be (policies that bring about vibrancy and attract residents), not the kind of city that sports teams get paid to be.
15.11.2025 17:09 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A reminder that sports teams and especially their owners do not love you or your city. They simply follow the money, which they do indeed love.
15.11.2025 17:01 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Three days ago, the Dallas City Council voted on a resolution that could include the sale and redevelopment of the City Hall site downtown.
On Monday, this is on the agenda for the council's Ad Hoc Committee on Professional Sports Recruitment and Retention meeting.
Let the speculation commence!
More expensive than Harvard but Harvard is hard to get into so I guess this is more realistic if you like spending $300K on a degree.

14.11.2025 17:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's more of a way of bribing Arlington and Fort Worth to not sabotage the DFW-HOU hsr line.
14.11.2025 17:11 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0In: $6B HSR lines between Dallas and Fort Worth.
Out: A functional bus lane in Downtown or bus line that goes by City Hall or the Library.
If you feel like I spend a lot of time arguing against Dallas' public transportation projects it's because we only do dumb public transportation projects.
14.11.2025 17:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Why a 30 mile long "high speed rail" that shares the same essential route already served by the TRE today would be discussed at all is a question buried deep within the Dallas/Arlington/Fort Worth relationship and NCTCOG political machinations.
Zero ways this makes sense.
Dallas council can't decide between two alignments DFW-FTW HSR. One of them skips every possible downtown connection but avoids Hunt's vaporware development while the other makes these connections.
Both of these options are nonsense because the DFW-ARL-FTW HSR is nonsense.
Dallas City Council members voted unanimously to move municipal elections to November instead of May. Supporters hope it increases voter turnout, reduces voter fatigue and saves money.

One bright spot in an otherwise depressing council session.

Everyone but Cara voted for the convention center and Council likes to pretend HO tax money isn't real money so they can rationalize the waste.
This is a whole new level of malfeasance. Selling out our heritage and future.
It's astonishing. Is he being promised support for another office? What could possibly drive this about face

RoboCop himself is mad that Dallas might tear down its brutalist City Hall:

Here is the most clear-eyed rundown of the City Hall fiasco thus far, from Mark Lamster.
Fantastically exaggerated costs to repair, grossly understated costs to move, with a healthy disregard to laws and wishes of the people.
I am baffled why Chad West and other CMs think this is a good idea.
I wish I could be there to deliver a blistering speech to council about this most hare-brained of schemes.
