No advocacy on their housing needs or whatโs needed to support their well-being. Who exactly are they saving?
We should be protecting the characters in our community; planning for their needs helps us all thrive!
"THIS IS A DICTATORSHIP"
Izzard 2025
I don't believe they were properly plowed this time around. By time I got there to plow it was hard packed.
I saw a mini sweeper rig by Selkirk trestle but sections of e&n I've seen have been mostly hard packed... Not great for riding on but it is warm again today hoping it melts.
One of my neighbours piled up snow from their driveway into the bike lane. 2 feet high piles 3 feet across. I did my thing and she was rather upset with my effort.
"I haven't need anyone use the bike lane all week!"
Why you think that is I ask...
This shot is mid clean up.
Had to get out the e-tractor to clean up my neighbourhood side walks and bike lanes.

Got a YouTube link posted in the comments.
This rig could easily haul and dispense salt, but it's only useful if the city doesn't bury bikelanes in now from the road! Maybe I'll add salt/sand dispensing but it's already quite extra as it is.
Indeed. You see it in places with consistent snow. I get that's not the case here, but nevertheless the equipment does exist locally, just an added cost to contract it out.
05.02.2025 00:42 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0It's been very reliable now if you want to take it out again sometime lol.
05.02.2025 00:26 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I mean, if that is the thinking then finish the damn job and get the snow onto the grass.
Looking at the forecast, it might be until next week before the bikelanes are usable.
Saanich should contract it out. A bobcat or similar machine would make easy work of it. Maybe my little e-tractor...
Plenty of 4 lane roads in Saanich getting plowed completely at the expense of bikelanes and sidewalks getting hammered with heavy road snow.
4 lane road reduction to 2/3 lanes = unacceptable.
Complete loss of service for bikes and pedestrians = acceptable.
Why we do dis.
Mckenzie Ave bikelanes in #saanich are completely cooked. Too heavy for me to plow and will require much heavier machinery. Realistically, they will sit fouled until it warms up again.
Plowed it yesterday and could have maintained it if it wasn't for city plows dumping road snow into it...
Yep on YouTube.
youtu.be/XaO9cSFZdA4?...
Today will be another big bike snow day!
-6 service calls incl 2 fridges not cooling.
-Bringing the plow with me as I get around I can plow.
-A few community food deliveries as usual drivers are toast today.
Wish me luck!

04.02.2025 05:53 โ ๐ 11 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1Did some bike lane and sidewalk plowing in #saanich and #victoriabc today.
I've got a bigger trike now and it's pretty straight forward. I wish the city plows could somehow avoid filling the bike lane and sidewalk.
