Netflix Is Trying to Buy Warner Bros Discovery. That Would Be a Disaster for America. Netflix won the bidding war to buy Discovery/Warner Brothers and consolidate Hollywood, but a Netflix-Warner merger looks illegal. It's likely to face meaningful political and antitrust hurdles.

With members on our team who are going through the Paramount-Skydance merger and the massive layoffs that have resulted in it, we know this is going to negatively affect animation workers (and all workers!) in both studios. Fuck this monopoly bullshit in ours, and every industry .

The world’s largest streaming company swallowing one of its biggest competitors is what antitrust laws were designed to prevent. The outcome would eliminate jobs, push down wages, worsen conditions for all entertainment workers, raise prices for consumers, and reduce the volume and diversity of content for all viewers. Industry workers along with the public are already impacted by only a few powerful companies maintaining tight control over what consumers can watch on television, on streaming, and in theaters. This merger must be blocked.

As far as we can tell this bill is not designed to prevent GenAI companies from stealing work, but is an essential step in creatives being able to demand proof that their work has been used without their permission, and hopefully take steps afterwards to rectify it.
