💯! Insect metamorphosis is crazy.

Toch weet de vlinder nog steeds dingen die hij als rups heeft geleerd. Niemand weet precies hoe geheugen (conditionering) bewaard blijft tijdens de metamorfose van larve tot volwassen insect. Nog een voorbeeld uit #EenWereldVolDenkers, september in de boekhandel! 2/2 #dieren #biologie #vlinders

Deze enorme rups staat op het punt zich tot nachtpauwoog te verpoppen! Hierbij lost het rupsenzenuwstelsel, gericht op eten en groeien, grotendeels op om opnieuw te worden opgebouwd als vlinderzenuwstelsel, gericht op vliegen en voortplanten. 1/2 #booksky #boeken #psychologie #insecten

Dezelfde bloem voor en na een regenbui. Bloemen vouwen zich vaak dicht om hun gevoelige delen te beschermen. Met wat geluk vind je ook nog een schuilende hommel vanbinnen. I think that confidence is unwarranted, yes. I guess the underlying disagreement is this: many people jump from the observation that LLMs are next-word predictors to the conclusion that therefore they are 'just' remixing existing knowledg (...)

Anyone who has a strong opinion about this either way doesn't understand how AI chatbots work. Anyone who doesn't have a strong opinion also doesn't understand—but at least doesn't pretend to be clairvoyant.
