Why would they need the votes when they don't even have the aspiration?

An entire community of thousands, here legally, having been demonized with deranged lies about eating pets, is about to be arbitrarily DECLARED illegal so they can be forcibly ethnically cleansed. I don’t want to hear one more fucking word about comparisons to Nazi Germany being overwrought.

After 3 years working under Putin’s missiles and drones as our Ambassador to Ukraine, I resigned when Trump kept appeasing Putin.

The America I proudly served for 28 years does not bow to dictators. It’s not who we are.

But the Trump Admin keeps doing exactly that.

No of course he isn't. His stance is, was, and remains that his supporters can have guns and kill people, whilst his opponents cannot have guns and can be killed without compunction

Yeah, somewhat. But these are pretty standard happenings, not enough to explain cratering nearly half their support in a year ish imv. I think the immigration stance and rhetoric has put many off, exacerbated by the EU stance, which many hoped would pivot post GE

Yet they are on <20% in the polls, so something there is not working and has in reality shrink Labour's appeal and support base. What do you reckon are the key fail points?

My operating assumption is that he tried to do a hasty coup in 2020 that failed, and so everything he does in his second term should be understood as laying the groundwork for a second coup to succeed.

Embryo/fetus are not perfectly neutrally buoyant throughout term: precise buoyancy will follow species-typical trajectories will individual variation.

Secondary prediction: these trajectories will co-define species typical morphology/physiology, and individual differences

Any developmental biologists out there looking for predictions to test?

Here's one: during critical periods of morphogenesis (in egg or womb), all* animals will be approximately equidense with their containing amniotic/other fluid. Existing data on this is weirdly sparse and not great quality.

Point of no returns: researchers are crossing a threshold in the fight for funding With so little money to go round, the costs of competing for grants can exceed what the grants are worth. When that happens, nobody wins.

"In other words, European taxpayers will have spent more on the funding process than on the funding itself, and the scientific ecosystem has been drained"

The situation is rapidly becoming unsustainable: the current research funding scheme does not work.

I find it so disheartening to listen to politicians - minister and similar levels - who keep saying things like β€œwe should, one might, it would be good…” AS IF IT IS NOT THEM WHO SHOULD MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Who are you talking to, this is YOUR JOB.

Very cool. It seems likely that adaptive sampling by active, deformable sensor arrays is a much underappreciated mode, potentially doing quite a bit of the work often attributed to computations over internal representations

I had to do a mandatory uni AI staff training course a couple of months back. It asked about my confidence using ai, but it did not ask about my confidence *in* ai. Upshot: my low confidence in ai will have been recorded as low confidence in my ability to use ai
