I should mention that I was interested in SU in high school mostly so I could keep marching. Didn’t realize until after I was already doing other stuff at Le Moyne (and instructing my old band) that I probably still could have joined SUMB.

Yeah, saturation is a problem. My Jesuit Alma mater is 3 miles from SU, and it was founded after WW2 because the Catholic diocese didn’t want parishioners going to Methodist-founded Syracuse on the GI Bill. 80 years later, that’s a big so what.

As a native New Yorker, I’m used to private schools - there’s many dozens.

That’s probably an interesting dissertation topic - the location of private colleges in relation to US settlement patterns.

Yes. I have a history degree from Le Moyne and thought our program was much stronger, despite being a way smaller school.

It’s the same model as George Washington University - it must be good because it’s expensive. The high profile sports certainly help too.

Syracuse has never been particularly strong at the humanities. They’ve focused on flashy majors and traded on the successful graduates of those programs for decades.

(It’s not that great of a school, to be honest.)
