That's it! Deadline for #ICA26 submissions are closed.

For those scholars who made the deadline, those who missed it, and those who didn't even know it was happening: You're doing a good job and your hair looks nice.

Looking forward to seeing you all at @icahdq.bsky.social in Cape Town!

Frontiers | Detecting jingle and jangle fallacies by identifying consistencies and variabilities in study specifications – a call for research Over the past few years, more attention has been paid to jingle and jangle fallacies in psychological science. Jingle fallacies arise when two or more distin...

@adrianmeier.bsky.social turned me on to "jingle" and "jangle" fallacies while at #MediaPsych, giving me some verbiage for things we talk about more frequently. There's a fuller look at these phenomena here:

Americans will go to any lengths to have to avoid using the metric system.

TIL the word "tsundere," meaning someone who initially presents a harsh, cold, or hostile exterior but gradually reveals a warmer, softer side over time.

This felt like it would have been a useful word to know long ago.

"Amazon" Prime Day isn't a holiday; but I'll go to my grave celebrating the real holiday: Prime Day.

He died and rose again--that warrants a celebration!

This seems like a big pile of bullpucky, administrative nonsense, and possibly retributional action on behalf of Cleveland State University.

3/3: ...conservative ideas aren't relevant. Unis do not need to entertain or discourse with flat-earth theories (and theorists), those that don't accept evolution, and those pedaling quack medicine. They're opinions, not evidenced discussion points; and they don't foster scholarly dialogue.

2/3: What science (and thus Universities) DO NOT rely on is opining. You're having an opinion about an area of study is great; but not important or relevant. Even MY *opinion* isn't relevant. Just what I can substantiate. This is why this premise is unfaithful. Liberal ideas aren't relevant, and...

1/3: Here's the thing that's too nuanced to be discussed in the agora. Science relies on open dialogue and rigorous testing of ideas. You have an alternate hypothesis? Great! Test it and show the evidence to peers. That can be paradigm shifting, and adds to our intellectual diversity.

A chart of "Major concerns of PhD candidates." The top text says, "Financial pressures top the list of concerns faced by PhD candidates, but concerns differ among the sexes. Those studying in the United States rank the political landscape as their main worry." The chart shows that in the full survey, political landscape is the biggest concern for about 20% of students (a bit higher for women than men) but there's an annotation saying "In US PhD students, this rose to 64%". Overall, the highest-rated concern was financial pressures at around 40%.

"a growing trend of young women writing frustrated pop hits about love and dating."

Ah yes. "Young women" pop artists have long been known for the absence of songs about love and dating in their discographies. Thank heavens the drought is over.

Seriously, @npr.org ?

But which ones, Disney? Which specific ones were insensitive, and in what ways? Without being specific, the statement here is toothless and inept.

Other airports offer museums, gaming stations, butterfly gardens, arboretums, or even just pleasant places to sit out of the way. #ATL has grossly overpopulated cafeteria dining, and seating at gates. For so much space and so many people, there's little to do beyond get in each other's way. 2/2

I think I've finally hit on why @atlairport.bsky.social is so terrible.
For all its bragging about being the worlds busiest passenger airport, it doesn't act like it: everything's always understaffed, escalators and seating areas too few, and absolutely nothing to do. 1/2

Wrapping up @mepsy.bsky.social's #MePsych25. It was a great time at @unidue.bsky.social, filled with friends, scholarship, and good chats over coffee and other drinks. It's amazing to have fit all this in to just a few days; and I'll be weeks unpacking the thoughts and inspiration from it.
