The heat was on at the EU summit yesterday!

For the first time, the Council clearly put electrification at the heart of our energy system, calling for “ambitious electrification using all net-zero and low-carbon solutions.”

We don’t want pedantry😀, but a reasonable level of understanding. It’s not rocket science but apparently the mistake made by the editorial team twice on two articles two days in a row. Apparently.

Heat pumps have had high profile disinformation campaigns in the past. In the UK that @desmog.com reported on www.desmog.com/2022/02/10/g...
And other countries have it too. For three media outlets in Ireland to parallel misinform, in the same way and not online with the original press release …

This morning I read the article from @irishtimes.com and rang & wrote to them to ask for a correction. They corrected the headline, and the article author @conorpope.bsky.social wrote back to confirm that it had changed. I opened up the app this evening and it’s wrong again.

You’d also have to factor in the Irish renewable generators being curtailed to facilitate interconnection flows, the impact of minimum generation holding off renewables also. (Ie if an import disappears and you use more Irish generators, any curtailed renewables would rise a little). Very complex

Walked a lot around Sligo over the last few days, the air is so much cleaner than a few years ago. One anti-social house burning smoky coal. But otherwise a big improvement.

All markets, all homes and all grids will work this way in the future, many already do. If we do it quickly, we gain competitiveness, security and hit climate targets. If we do it slowly, we lose the first mover advantage, create extra warming and provide more funding to dictators.

Worth noting that the EU isn't the only part of the world considering electricity market reform - and doing a bad job of integrating demand side/consumer energy resources into the discussion.

(Yes I know we just finished another EU power market reform but the debate on the next reform is starting.)
