Something speculative I wrote on the same topic a few years ago; strange to see these things coming true and being addressed in academia!

Why Students Should Write in All Subjects Writing improves learning by consolidating information in long-term memory, researchers explain. Plus, five engaging writing activities to use in all subjects.

Why get students writing in math, science, social studies, and more? It’ll help them process information and remember what they’ve learned. ✍️

Edutopia’s @youkiterada.bsky.social shares the research.

Fingers crossed! It would be great to see more linguistic knowledge in general but I don't think it will be implemented fully until more teachers are confident with it.

There are schools out there doing great stuff at secondary but my impression is it’s not the norm. I’m worried the the well is already poisoned and the removal of the grammar element of SATs will mean an even more reduced role in future

Crisis or variation in languages education provision in England? Language learning in the UK is often framed as being in a state of β€œcrisis”. But does this narrative provide a fair reflection of what is happening across all schools in England?

'School leadership, parent and caregiver buy-in, teacher recruitment and retention, student demographics all play a crucial role in shaping language provision and driving changes.'

Levelling Up English I’ve been an English teacher for over 10 years, working in the UK and overseas. English is my first language, I was born in England, and would happily say, β€œI’m English”. Ho…

Given the lack of political/cultural/linguistic representation in English regions, it is sadly unsurprising to see racists /nationalists filling the gaps.

Article I wrote a few years ago feeling more relevant again!

A @starkeycomics.bsky.social graphic shows just how many of the 'gen' words are related.

Gemini, genocide, gentle, gentleman, agenda, gentrified, genes, gender, general, Genesis, genitals, genetics, genius...

My guess would be that these (gin, ginger, ginseng, jinx, Jenga) aren't cognates?
