The genre stretches back quite a bit before the Sims (which I agree is excellent by the way). There were various Sim Cities, Sim Ant was quite big and fun, I had Sim Earth which was ok but a bit contrived. Then the whole Civilisation franchise.

Do you mean Sim City? That was the original Sims as far as I'm concerned.
