🦞 Planning Commission has the East Bend Neighborhood rezoning to DTC in the agenda today. Is it exclusively adoption of that code, or does this include adoption of the bad (my words) Public Realm Design Framework? This is an important distinction that I cannot extrapolate from the agenda.

A good reminder that multimodal transportation planners have NEVER been employed leading the visioning, planning, or design of the East Bank and its streets.

Yep! This model truly fails at the point of "we can't/won't commit the funding to build a slower environment right now, so I guess we just let em go fast - yolo!"

Without question. Frankly, at the moment we're a VZCINO (Vis Zero City in name only). Relying on national standards will only get us to the same place as everyone else: too many of roadway deaths. Advocates are asking for better and not getting it from NDOT leadership. Insanity is doing....

I've been told that Director Alarcon had meetings with legal last summer, rallying their support against committee/commission members or advocate who voices opposition to an NDOT stance.
I've seen numerous actions like this since then corroborating it.

Please find the agenda for tomorrow's meeting linked here. Unfortunately, we will not be discussing Bylaw amendments or New Members as our working subcommittee meeting was cancelled in January due to weather.

Here’s the hard truth: Nashville will never be a Vision Zero city if we solely ascribe to β€œnational standards and practices.” We wont get there through cautious incrementalism.
Nashville could be a leader of Vision Zero, but it’s quite clear that we lack the leadership and gumption to do just that.

The Traffic and Parking Commission voted to pass the 35mph speed limit on Haywood Ln recommended by @nashvilledot.bsky.social. I appreciate all of the discussion surrounding the reduction yet found it shameful that the body sought to shut down justifiable questions by @neilkornutick.bsky.social

That is another incredibly meager action towards improving a HIN road that can see great action now. VZAC and other bodies must continue compelling @nashvilledot.bsky.social to do better. But frankly, we shouldn't have to. NDOT should be leading the "culture change," not the other way around.

TPC/VZAC can't pull the NDOT funding lever and I recognize that infrastructure costs money. But an identified issue addressed with such mediocrity is heartbreaking and plainly has cost lives. NDOT's plan to improve Haywood now only includes speed feedback signs and centerline rumble strips.

VZAC is routinely dismayed that life saving measures cannot be implemented due to the hurdles of the NDOT/TDOT dynamic. Yet without those hurdles, NDOT has only accomplished a stop light at E Ridge Dr (2023), and an intersection warning sign (2024) near Hopedale Dr on Haywood Ln.

With TPC considering Haywood Ln this afternoon, I wanted to express some thoughts:
Haywood Ln has been on the Motor High Injury Network since the city adopted VZ. Now, three pedestrians were killed last year. Haywood is unique to HIN because it's a local road that NDOT exclusively controls.
