"Google is hosting a CBP app that uses facial recognition to identify immigrants, and tell local cops whether to contact ICE about the person, while simultaneously removing apps designed to warn local communities about the presence of ICE officers..."

people love bringing up japan when it comes to deporting immigrants/ creating a homogenous society, but if you bring up japan's anti-gun laws it's "woah woah woah"

Andry JosΓ© HernΓ‘ndez Romero, I remember you, even if I do not know how to articulate my horror, rage, & sorrow at your treatment by my government.

No one has heard from you in 63 days.

As vigil, I’m posting a photo of you every day until you are returned from El Salvador.

At the risk of sounding corny, hope really is a practice. I’m as much of a cynical depresso as the next person. The reason why I find doomerism so toxic is that it forecloses the possibility of a better future. The devils want us to fall into despair.

ICE raids have 'overwhelmed' coastal California communities Communities in three California counties "overwhelmed" as ICE raids ramp up in the region.

A man pulled up to a gas station to fill up his truck. ICE agents surrounded him and took him away. But his children were left behind.
β€œThey arrested someone,” witness said. β€œThey left the children inside the truck.”

β€œWill the next pope be right wing?” Wrong question. Catholicism is nine times older than the left-right paradigm. There’s no way to plot conclave politics on less than twenty different axes, several of which operate on non-physical planes & three of which are about being Italian

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to β€œthe left” and therefore ignorable.

Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

Worth asking how this makes us more safe in any way, shape, or form.

Rebecca Solnit on Facebook:
I spent much of the last almost 24 hours not doing my usual job--the one I do for a living, which is at present writing my current book (plus answer endless emails)--to do the job the legacy media and major news outlets were not doing: reporting on the impact and illegality of the latest coup attempt by the Trump team. If we had the press I wish we did, I might've urged you here and there to contact your representatives or commented a little but I would not have been scouring for informed and expert opinions and interpretations on what was happening and posting them madly, because you would've been reading and listening to them in that mainstream media.
Most of what I shared did not come from them because they were pretty useless and behind the curve, these institutions valued in the hundreds of millions with immense salaried staffs. It came from legal scholars and experts, independent journalists--including Marisa Kabas, an independent journalist at The Handbasket who was the first to report the leaked order to cut off all that funding. The New York Times, the Washington Post, etc. didn't get the scoop. She did, and even the next morning a lazy, lackluster underreporting and playing down of what happened. Really you can blame the outcome of the November election in part on that kind of sanewashing and normalizing and softening up of all their Trump coverage and the consequences of what he has done and threatened to do--and is doing now.

The most powerful words you can say right now to these fascist bastards is:

"No, make me."

They cannot actually be everywhere and enforce their fascist policies. They rely on fear to do the job of governing for them. By refusing to comply, you make their means of compliance ineffective.
