There's nothing more amazing than studying 300+ lines in the French Defense and then being out of preparation on move 2. This 800 line course doesn't cover 2. nc3 - yes, 99% of lines will transpose into something I know, but there's not meant to be a nc3 kings indian attack against the French

Yeah lol. Even the theory aside I just like to play a solid game where I feel comfortable. Im proud when the dame seems logical start to finish, win or loss.
08.02.2025 05:13 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This just happened to me in that French game - I assumed I was still in theory and played something else, I wasn’t but fortunately it still worked haha
08.02.2025 05:12 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0One thing I’m noticing after Chessable is that I’m like Chat GPT - I don’t recognise when there’s something I don’t know, I just assume I’ve seen it before and over-apply my knowledge. Y’know? If a position comes up that I’ve seen I’ll remember the answer, but if it’s new it can be hard to tell
08.02.2025 05:11 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0To be honest, I’ve never really played. I feel it’s too chaotic for me, removes some of the elements I enjoy in normal chess in terms of how I feel I improve and recognise structures etc and play a solid game.
08.02.2025 05:08 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Exactly, I checked lichess’s database and even that was tiny for 960. Also recently I saw a GM blunder a queen in one move in the opening. It really messes with your pattern recognition because you’ll notice normal chess is so “perfect” - there’s always a way out, everything is always protected
08.02.2025 05:08 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I was mostly joking, but for top players it's totally possible to do very basic study for each position, or just starting with difficult positions! You may wonder if this is worth it, but Fabiano made quite a significant blunder on move 1 last year against Magnus in a CLASSICAL game!
08.02.2025 04:54 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0People need to understand that Fischer random doesn't have less theory, it has 959 times more theory

Yep, I reached out to contact and also made a community post.

I cant get over how Chessable switches the order and colours of the buttons sometimes - next variation on the right in blue if you're reviewing a line, or in white on the left if you're learning a line for the first time. Messes me up so much #chess #chesspunks
07.02.2025 03:42 — 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0- ah, and with very defined lines/systems rather than individual moves. Like in the KID white does have a lot of options but they largely feel systematic. Although it can get a bit much.
05.02.2025 00:20 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I finally understand the openings I like! It’s not about positional or tactical. It’s about being forcing - limiting the setups the opponent has and ensuring that I’m comfortable in my position no matter what. It pairs well with my over-focus on openings, too.

What about you?
What’s next, the French Defense is refuted in a small 12000 variation course?
04.02.2025 04:24 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Honestly me too!

04.02.2025 00:05 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0(And just the sidelines - doesn’t include the mainline. That’s part 1, which is fortunately only 400 more variations or so!)
02.02.2025 08:11 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0There’s still no way an IM should be wasting their time on 2300 variations for sidelines in the kings Indian.

02.02.2025 02:00 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0From a review - "There's also a lot of clickable variations, so only using the move trainer would omit quite a few variations." no way

6. Be2 e5 7. 0-0 Na6 81 VARIATION QUICKSTARTER?!
I saw one which is only 17 trainable variations and then a focus on tactics and themes, pretty crazy.
01.02.2025 05:00 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Oh wow. "Dethrone the KID part 1" on Chessable has an average depth of 24.7. That's insane. One chapter averages 30 depth.
#chess #chesspunks
Chessable's "Dethrone the King's Indian Defense Part 2: Sidelines for white", which claims to offer the most complete refutation against the KID, has 2300 variations (in just part 2). Wtf? Who has time for that against just the KID?
#chess #chesspunks
I have them, yes. But I’m saying the next one was in between, more balanced. Plicta’s. Although I’m not huge on it either, learning Giri’s Grunfeld rn.

Okay... we'll just hope I'm not the first to get it

I uh, I bought my fourth or fifth Kings Indian course.
To be fair, one was a 100 repertoires (100 lines) and I really didn't enjoy it, and the other was cool but far too complicated and difficult (The most extensive KID course ever, I imagine)
#chesspunks
I mainly study openings for fun. I noticed you seem to study a lottttt. What are you studying? I would recommend less study and more playing.
