My favorite ump all season was a 50- or 60-something dude who umped in the infield one whole afternoon and was just jazzed all day to be attending some baseball games. Openly cheering great plays, chatting with the kids, the whole deal.

Holy God the third baseman for Venezuela just made one of the best baseball plays I’ve seen all year at any level.

Funny to me how hard the Star tried to vilify the awarding of the vendor contracts, when they ended up completely nailing it. Nothing a KC person loves more than glorifying KC. And that place glorifies the s— out of KC.

Rocky ends on a freeze frame at the exact greatest millisecond of the main character’s life. I’ve never seen that done elsewhere.

I loved the old airport for flying out of, because there was usually no line, but I understood why it had to go. The new one is super nice and (bonus!) seems to work well for air travelers too.

I get that. Once you do travel ball, 12 year olds playing on 60 foot bases without leadoffs does seem insane. But for the kids it’s just fun, and that’s what matters most. Then all-stars is fun in a different way for the more serious kids.

Ha! I’m our GameChanger person, and coaches like having me in the dugout as the fourth “coach” for immediate access to stats and fame situations. Living the dream. 😂

We’ve always done parent-run teams but also managed to find ones that are a bit competitive. The 10U team this year went 15-11, won a silver bracket and a second place medal, and had some epic team hangouts. Plus our son goes on and on about how much he loves his team. 5 stars will play again.

The top 10U team in town cut their younger kids last year to load up on kids as close to puberty as possible, and this year they started a no Little League policy after they finished on a 9 game losing streak (trying to play majors level and even though only 1 of their kids did LL all-stars).

It wouldn’t surprise me if teams from bigger areas specifically seek out lefties in tryouts.

I’m a lefty, but so far 0 for 3 on the kids being lefty. It’s also much less common in youth baseball than I would have guessed. The 11U team has one (1) kid who bats lefty… and that kid fields/throws righty.

10,000%. I was screaming at the TV. The specific evil of Philip is that I really think he believed he was being a friend by sharing his Renee theory, when it was actually the most evil shit he could have done.

We have to get the kids there next year. (And if I’m remembering right, you’re in my very favorite part of the park).

Our 11yo is alllllll the way in on baseball, and the 6yo idolizes him completely, so yeah we’re almost there too.

Philip is the devil. Elizabeth too obviously. But in a lot of ways Philip might be worse.

The pilot is a pretty good mini-spy movie all on its own, with its own all-time needle drop, by the director of Miracle and Warrior.

I guess you could call our team Daddy Ball, except one of the dad coaches also coaches high school. The boys are going into 11u, so they’re doing one fall tournament for exposure to the new rules, but other than that the coaches want to let them reset and do soccer and basketball if they want.

Damn. Our team has shut it down till September, then will take October and November off too.

So of course our kids are making us take them to a two-nights-a-week sandlot-style pickup game from 5:30-8:00.

Slightly diminish a band

It works gangbusters in some songs. So Long Marianne, Suzanne, Anthem. But songs like Famous Blue Raincoat and Hallelujah cry out for a more… melodious approach.

You’d have to watch the whole show for it to really land, but the AHHHH-AHHHH-AH-AHHHHHHH, in the series finale, accompanies one of the biggest emotional whammies in all of TV.

This is the Leonard Cohen issue too. And I love Leonard Cohen. But a real singer doing Famous Blue Raincoat would be an all-timer.
