What an incredible online exhibition of Arabic book art spearheaded by Zeina Maasri. "It reveals how the aesthetic concerns & political commitments of a generation of Arab artists & graphic designers transformed the Arabic book in its content, form, & very conception." www.decolonizingthepage.com/en

Arts Workers for Palestine Scotland explains how EIF engages in artwashing and supports genocide: "Programming Palestinian artists while taking money from companies profiting from the deaths of other Palestinians puts those artists in an impossible and deeply cruel position."

Barely an hour ago, Palestinian journalist Anas Al-Sharif warned us all:
“If this madness doesn’t end, Gaza will be reduced to ruins, its people’s voices silenced, their faces erased — and history will remember you as silent witnesses to a genocide you chose not to stop.”
Israel just killed him.

Rice prices dropped! With aid starting to come in, prices in markets are slowly dropping. Our kitchen decreased the price of 800g of rice from $17.50 to $9.

This is great! I hope the board listens to its members, bans the agitator, apologizes to the WOC and trans woman on the receiving end of his violence, commits to a racism and harassment free space at confs & communication, and finally acknowledges the genocide and scholasticide in Palestine.
Amen!

Boycott scms 2026
For nearly 2 years, the scms board of directors has refused to publicly acknowledge Palestine or decry anti-Palestine racism and the Israeli genocide in Palestine. Instead the scms board has:
- ignored the wishes of over 700 of its members to make a public statement condemning the Israeli scholasticide and mediacide in Palestine
- issued mass messages to deny the perpetration of racism and harassment by a pro-israel agitator at the 2025 conference
- disabled vital communication platforms for caucuses and special interests groups
- instituted authoritarian changes to the associations annual election nomination process without rationale or explanation
Scholars in Cinema and Media Studies for Palestine (formerly PSWG) have issued a call to boycott SCMS. We need better from our institutions. Nothing normal under genocide.

"BOYCOTI
SCMS 2026
FOR NEARLY TWO YEARS, THE SCMS BOARD OF DIRECTORS HAS REFUSED TO PUBLICLY ACKNOWLEDGE PALESTINE OR DECRY ANTI-PALESTINIAN RACISM AND THE ISRAELI GENOCIDE IN PALESTINE.
INSTEAD, THE SCMS BOARD HAS:
1) IGNORED THE WISHES OF OVER 700 OF ITS MEMBERS TO MAKE A PUBLIC STATEMENT
CONDEMNING THE ISRAELI SCHOLASTICIDE AND MEDIACIDE IN PALESTINE
2) ISSUED MASS MESSAGES TO DENY THE PERPETRATION OF RACISM AND HARASSMENT BY A PRO-ISRAEL AGITATOR AT THE 2025 CONFERENCE
3) DISABLED VITAL COMMUNICATION PLATFORMS FOR CAUCUSES AND SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS
4) INSTITUTED AUTHORITARIAN CHANGES TO THE ASSOCIATION'S ANNUAL ELECTION NOMINATION PROCESS WITHOUT RATIONALE OR EXPLANATION
SEND A MESSAGE TO THE BOARD.
BOYCOTT THE CONFERENCE.
Scholars of Cinema and Media

And there we have it. A call to boycott SCMS this year.

"The SCMSSP is working to organize a parallel scholarly forum. This forum is envisioned as a largely virtual conference that will, in addition to protesting the SCMS Board’s inaction regarding Palestine, allow scholars excluded from SCMS to become a more central and active part of the conversation."
