Pause. Quit. Wait. (Without it Costing an Arm) — Sanskrit Psychology
Quit my PhD after years of sacrifice. Here's why pausing, quitting, and waiting can lead to real clarity — and what Zen taught me about commitment.
After years of chasing a PhD, I walked away. No logical analysis, just a deep feeling it wasn’t right. I feared I’d failed until I realised I'd followed a 3-step plan.
Here’s what a Zen monk taught me about cutting your losses or maybe an arm:

Your logic’s the narrator. Your instinct’s the main character. But the story only makes sense afterwards. www.philipjgrant.com/blog/snowsho...

If you make a fist, it exists. If you relax it, it disappears. The same applies to the self—it’s not a thing, but a pattern of actions. This simple insight changes everything. #SanskritPsychology

Modern psychology often assumes you’re an individual, making choices in a world that happens to you. Sanskrit psychology sees you as part of the universe itself—more like a wave in the ocean than a separate drop of water. #SanskritPsychology

I'm not sure the yamas and niyamas relate to light and dark - they're not commandments, rather things to do or not do or challenge yourself on if you want to make progress towards the true self. The true self transcends light and dark not your actions towards it.

Your identity isn’t fixed. You’re not just a name, a job, or a personality type—you’re a shifting interplay of body, mind, environment, universe, and relationships. That’s the starting point of Sanskrit psychology. #SanskritPsychology

What if the mind isn’t in the brain but part of the whole body? What if "you" aren’t separate from the world at all? Sanskrit psychology asks us to rethink the self—not as a ghost in a machine, but as the universe, humaning. #SanskritPsychology

Touching the toes is not the goal of Yoga. Frankly speaking- It’s quite a stretch. Pun intended.
It was always the stretch, never the toes. It was always the philosophy, never the pose. It was always the person, never the technique. It was always the context, never (just) the content.

Yoga also has injury, ego, entrepreneurship, cultural piracy, exclusion... we have to accept the light with the dark. The lotus flower needs sun, water and lots and lots of mud ❤️

Western psychology says you’re a mind in a body. Sanskrit psychology says you’re a verb, not a noun—an unfolding event, not a trapped self. What happens when you see yourself as a process, not a thing? #SanskritPsychology

Yes good response, i obviously don't believe in assertions of such simplicity but the quote marks hopefully point to an acknowledgement of the views that some people hold and that I've genuinely heard.
