As someone who's hated America my entire life, who frequently communicates with non-Americans, and who has never voted for a Republican it is extremely painful to be the target of ire directed at the current US government.

I was required to take two courses of a foreign language in both secondary school and university and chose Deutsch for both. They did a really poor job in each. American high schools no longer teach German and my college dropped the language about five years ago...
