If your students aren't doing the required readings, thats your fault for not making the assignments more involved and requiring those readings to be completed. I can't believe you want to punish every student who uses canvas and benefits from this function simply because you can't engage your students enough to do the readings.

thus we get stuff like this more & more, where student-consumers think assignments exist to force the stages of the learning process & to create app checklists for them so they aren’t responsible for their engagement or awareness of material, rather than as checkpoints for assessing learning
