I predict 27 or 28 November that he will "graciously" step aside because that's the date he gets his lifelong PM entitlements that he's entitled to.

Seems relevant given our disastrous electricity market that this is the same as when Transpower was sold off. Results will be the same

Government’s books show finance minister borrowing billions to keep the lights on Treasury has revealed the state of the Government’s finances and it shows we’re borrowing just to keep the lights on.

It's unbelievable that this article

"Government’s books show finance minister borrowing billions to keep the lights on"

does not once mention the $12to$14Billion tax cut cost they are borrowing to cover, nor the Billions they stole from Pay Equity Fund #NZPol

Just got sent this from an article by Bryce Edwards. This is completely false, and he never once fact-checked it with me. My campaign was run by me and my small volunteer team. Comments like this reflect a tired mindset that assumes women can’t succeed in politics without a man pulling the strings.

This is Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron and considered to be the first person to write a computer programme which was for Babbage's Analytical Machine. She died in 1842
In her honour, today is Ada Lovelace Day and is all about encouraging women and girls in mathematics, science and engineering.

Trust me - from close proximity - for a 19 year old struggling with mental health challenges job-seekers is terrifying but these changes will make things far, far worse for so many of our young people. Imagine extra funding to support 18/19 year olds through this tough time?

I wrote a thing that is set in an imagined near-future where there is a tent city in Te Aro park. I would very much like sci-fi/speculative fiction/dystopic fiction to remain in any way fictional. I would like it if I imagined an awful thing and it didn't turn out to be not as awful as reality.

Just for clarity, the unemployment numbers under this government may look terrible, but keep in mind, Luxon has driven tens of thousands of Kiwis overseas as well, so its actually far worse. These numbers are just the ones that couldnt leave.

Hundreds of teens with a health condition, disability may be cut from Jobseeker benefit The government is ending Jobseeker payments to 18- and 19 year olds whose parents earn more than $65,000.

Fucksake. It's quite clear now that they only looked at this benefit policy as political marketing and took no advice on who it would impact – which includes young people with serious health issues and disabilities. Just feckless and cynical. Shame on them. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.

#nzpol The Reserve Bank has cut the official cash rate by 0.5%. That sounds great. But banks only cut interest rates that much when the economy is in trouble - and not when things are going well. This cut is a sign of economic weakness, not strength. A 😄🧵

Peters insists Kiwis detained in Israel 'can find their own way home', taxpayers won't foot flights The family of the trio detained were in tears asking for the Govt to bring them home.

The three achieved more diplomatically than the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Perhaps he should reimburse NZ for funds wasted on his UN trip last month, so those resources cover their return flights. After all, they had their own transport until unlawfully detained by another government.

One of the things I've talked about here is the nature of "performative public policy" or policy initiatives that superficially exist within accepted policy narratives, but in reality aren't about achieving policy goals. Instead, the announcement of the policy is a political end, not a policy one.

A small wrinkle in the Jobseeker policy The government’s recent changes to benefits feel like this: the house is on fire, and this policy is them turning off the smoke alarm and saying it’s fixed

#nzpol Sometimes a policy is so stupid it makes you question the very fabric of reality. Decisions so fabulously, almost wantonly dumb, you wonder if we actually live in a simulation. Welcome to the world of removing Jobseeker Support for 18 & 19-year-olds. craigrenney.substack.com/p/a-small-wr...

Let’s not forget that if that unemployed 18 or 19 year old wants to improve their job prospects by starting tertiary education, their student allowance will be subject to parental means testing (albeit with a much higher cut off point) until they are 24!

How many job hunters are there for each job ad? Finding work may not be as easy as "getting off the PlayStation", data on jobs and job hunters shows.

The Prime Minister lied. The whole policy to remove benefits from 18/19 year olds is based on a lie. The PM knows it but doubles down anyway showing his usual callous disregard and contempt for New Zealanders and the truth.
