Three hikers stride across a flat path with mountains in the background and large clouds gathering above.
Two hikers celebrate with arms out wide and big smiles at the summit of a mountain.
To quote one of the team: "We hiked, climbed, learned so much, and achieved goals by reaching challenging places, but all of this was made possible thanks to our teamwork and support for one anotherβ¦ I wonβt forget the friends I met after joining the group. We became a team, friends, and a family."

Hotel accommodation is not appropriate for people seeking asylum. It stifles integration, strips people of agency, and significantly harms mental health. The system must change.

Badreddin, like many others, had fled violence in his home country and came to the UK seeking protection and dignity. Instead, he found isolation, disempowerment, and inadequate support while housed in a city-centre hotel at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This incident did not happen in isolation. It took place within the broader context of a profoundly flawed asylum system that continues to place vulnerable people in unsuitable hotel accommodation.

We remember Badreddin and all those who were harmed in the events of that day. Our thoughts remain with his family, those who were injured, and the many others who continue to be impacted by the trauma of that time.
