Always astounded by those who sense a responsibility to usher in the end of the world on behalf of God.

Saving this for Palm Sunday.

And yet, I haven’t heard the Pope thank VP Vance once.

18.09.2025 16:40 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It is curious to observe how some identify one as a political debater and others the same as divisive and dehumanizing.
Both can’t be true.
Particularly folks who can navigate this realm of political violence easily, we need not judge the reaction.
There is a song of deliverance on the shore.
There is a song of mourning back in Egypt.
And there is a silence in heaven.
Let us listen,
let us learn,
and let us make something new.
This isn't necessarily a rebuke of the reaction on shore. There is some sense of relief when a soldier can no longer chase and harm. To listen to Miriam is to hear the violent history endured.
But it is perhaps an image of reaction and response. How we react will not necessarily be how we remember.
The song echoes across the shore and rises into the heavens. The angels looking on began to join in the chorus and brought this song before God.
God silenced the angels.
God told them "my handiwork is drowning in the sea, and you want to sing?"
(Sanhedrin 39b)
There's a word from the Talmud on how one might grieve the death of an enemy.
After the waters of the Re(e)d Sea swallowed the Egyptian soldiers, a song broke out on the shores. Miriam led a song of divine deliverance. Finally, a barrier had emerged between the people and their enemies.
Christian Nationalism argues for two genders, but can’t make it to the second story.
09.09.2025 12:33 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0To begin with Genesis 1.1-2.4a is to encounter the divine chorus of “goodness” recognized in all of creation. It is also to understand ALL of humanity as made in the image of God (a plural being - “us” and “our”).
Christianity begins with a sacred affirmation of human identities - ALL identities.
To review the news of the administration on any particular day is to see again and again that this White House does not know nor care to expand the pie of abundance for everyone, but only devotes its attention to steal and deny wealth, prosperity, and even dignity for others to elevate himself.

28.08.2025 11:51 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0True. It’s quite amazing how much relief people feel when their doubts/disbelief are honored and they are truly welcome to be/remain a part of the community. It might even be understood as a liberation.
28.08.2025 02:34 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Correct. They still abide by a traditional framework within the Catholic Church.
Nothing wrong or bad about that. I just have a different anthropology and theology. Spong, Moltmann, Butler-Bass, Brown-Taylor, Moss III, and Rohr are more my speed.
They need not be. Many will see them in agreement.
My reason for a liberation perspective and not the other is that I do not subscribe to the concept of original sin that would require such a sacrifice for atonement.
I think that the piece of solidarity is shared between these interpretations. I think that a liberation approach would see the cross as Christ’s solidarity with humanity under the weight of the world, rather than as need for a reconciliation w God.
26.08.2025 22:27 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I think I better understand your earlier remark about this being connected to MAGA’s tolerance of abuse and continued sacrifice of material items and integrity.
Commitment as demonstration to the movement.
And then that perhaps has something to do with belonging.
Right on. To give something that belongs to you to another or the commons or God is commitment and devotion. The traditions also have a wise and anti-materialist transformation to request something of the heart and elevate this as priority.

It is a very good and difficult question to send when a reforming movement within becomes a distinct tradition apart, and this certainly plays into how they relate to each other after the full emergence/birth.
And while it may be annoying to bring POTUS into it, this whole conversation leads right into Christian Nationalism in the US and its chief priests.
