In non-standard work, it’s the task—not the worker—that stays flexible… for the client. This reframes assumptions about freelance autonomy.

WFH strategies also reflect how freelancers cope with precarity:

🔄 While contending with the risks of self-employment

These spatial strategies show how freelancers manage hybrid identities, constantly navigating between entrepreneurial demands and worker needs.
This complicates the usual narrative of freelancing as simply “entrepreneurial.”

Freelancers embody routines, dress codes, and performances to put themselves to work—blurring boundaries between space, self, and labour.

2️⃣ Prioritizing work: reconfiguring the home to signal professionalism.
Think: DIYing, carving out office space, changing layouts—all to present as productive and legit.

1️⃣ Investing in work: moving house to afford or enable freelancing.
🏡 Sometimes to gain space, other times to retrench financially—channeling personal resources into professional survival.
