There wasn’t a problem with cataract referrals until we had 15 years of cuts

Then the NHS needed ‘saving’ by private providers

This is Government run and influenced by the the business sector who fund politicians for financial gain

Back in 2000-2010 when NHS was properly funded there wasn’t a problem for cataract surgery & no need for the Private sector to ‘rescue’ the NHS

I remember referring urgently & patients seen in 2-3 weeks, standard referrals 2-3months

Ophthalmology has taken the lead in moving NHS care to the Private sector

Here we read how some are exploiting those contracts or lack of scrutiny

This is why this move has been campaigned against by many people in the NHS
