A big hurdle is going to be the fact that a lot of people were just calling for what Trump’s doing as recently as a year or so ago in the name of fighting homelessness and shoplifting. So acknowledging the racism and violence he intends now puts that recent advocacy in quite a poor light.

I’m not sure how familiar she is with the legend is the thing. She was concerned about a MCD tag in a reincarnation fic (accidental memory) and I wasn’t sure she totally grasped the implication.

I had no idea so many people think of writing as a chore they would gladly offload to a machine. Maybe I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am truly shocked at how widespread this sentiment seems to be. Among people I think of as peers in my work world.

Exactly! We truly do not need to give in to this. I’m baffled by the immediate and near total acquiescence without any reflection.

It feels like people don't understand that the project here is to make a few people a lot of money by shrinking labor and labor's share of what we produce.

It's mind-boggling to me that folks in academic and non-profit/progressive spaces aren't fighting this harder. Some are fighting, but in my sector we're being drowned out by the "it's inevitable, jump onboard" crowd. Organized labor across ALL sectors needs to mobilize.

Fighting the intrusion and uptake of AI in the workplace is effing exhausting and it's only begun. I'm in my 50s and it's clear to me that if I spend another 15 years in the workplace, which I'll likely have to do to survive, I'm going to lose if I can't find key allies.

Anyway, I’m apparently fine now and the song is gone. The air quality is even worse though.

It was SO LOUD in my head. “Haul out the holly…” meanwhile it must’ve been 80 degrees in my room and the AQI outside was 125 from Canadian fires. Getting stomach sick, which I never do, happened over the course of hrs while the song rang through my head. I felt possessed.

I woke up at 2 am last night singing We Need a Little Christmas in my head, then proceeded to become horribly nauseated and sick. I sang that song in a production of the Christmas Carol as a child at The Academy of Music and haven’t sung it in >45 yrs.

90 without counting tbr bc I don’t trust my tbr list - it’s too long to be legit :). Maybe I’ll bump some of these up though. I’ve had the Jemisin sitting on my kindle for too long.
