It's near-white out conditions in Chicago as the snow comes down, and tonight's anti-ICE/CBP rally is wrapping up in front of city hall.

But not before the crowd bounces and chants, "I believe that we will win!"

1) you constituent the public whose taxes pay for the salary of me, the public employee. That does very well make you a constituent.

I didn’t find the post. Someone sent it, which is why I then commented. This isn’t an argument. I mention plenty of constituents with all sorts of perspectives. “Who you shouldn’t hang out with” is the epitome of high school insecurity fam.

It is insecure to raise up this much of a stink over a twitter shout out. I’m not insecure about it which is why I had no problem mentioning him publicly. He showed up to an event where we talked budget and city charter ideas. I mentioned it publicly.

No, not really. Again, high school af. People will ignore work, votes, laws passed, etc. But want to trip about a “twitter shout out”. They’ll ignore the fact that someone sought to set up tent encampments on toxic land for example, because theyre viewed as progressive though.

Also, he’s a constituent. If I didn’t engage with constituents because we have disagreements, then I would pretty wack at the job, which it sustainable.

Not controversial at all to have a take. The whole “not hanging out” exclusion approach hasn’t been my style because 1) it’s high school af 2) it creates more division and less room to find agreement, and 3) I can disagree with someone vehemently and still engage in discourse

So I guess I’ll be going to the southwest side of town this season.

I think I misread the comment originally.

Not at all. Mostly because rather than pushing them, I’m presenting options and asking for their opinion, so it creates a better dialogue and one where they don’t feel like I’m questioning their morality or values.

Depends on the issue, which is why having options makes sense. It’s not that I don’t get that, it’s that putting all the issues on CPD, who is not best equipped with how to address in some instances, doesn’t tied the best outcomes

I don’t but a colleague once gave me advice that has never left me. “People love progress but are scared of change.”

Also, to your point, it definitely isn’t something black folk need to be worrying at all about, it’s work many of us other folks need to do to different levels. I think that’s also part of why I ask. It’s less about what I think others should be doing and more raising the conversation to learn
