thankfully, the juniors i birthed are too smart for this garbage

1st grade teacher called him lazy & told me "you just think he's supposed to be smart bc you're a professor." he's now a happy honors 12th grader bc he gets time+1/2. i'd rather 100 kids get extra time even if 99 don't need it just to make sure the 1 who does need it doesn't want to die. 3/3

K-12 teacher, teacher mentor, and for the last 15 years, professor of education AND the mom of two kids with ADHD and dyslexia. the reason i don't care if anyone gets 504 accommodations who doesn't "need" them is bc i remember when my 8 yr old was endorsing precursor suicidal ideation bc his 2/3

only if you want to. 😉 but i also fail to see how these parents are gaming the system. extra time on tests only helps if you need it. otherwise it has no effect. if kids are routinely running out of time, the tests are poorly designed and that's the problem, not parents. i say this as a former 1/3

i taught at one founded by nuns and heavily based on catholic social teaching and in 5 years teaching a 4/4 load and summer classes, i never once had a student use the bible to make an argument in a paper. not once.

"Faculty may analyze such ideas academically, but cannot endorse them or require students to affirm them, according to the December memorandum." Faculty don't do this. No dept would hire someone who "endorses" prejudice. You're just giving enemies of higher ed another weapon to attack you.

gaming the system how, exactly? if you don't have a disability that slows you down (eg, ADHD or dyslexia -- which is thought to affect 20% of the pop, mostly undiagnosed), extra time doesn't help. if you don't know the material, and you read/process neurotypically, more time does nothing for you.

this makes me absolutely see red. i am a SPED parent, former K12 inclusion teacher, prof of education, and IDGAF if kids who don't "need" accommodations get them. if you don't know the material, extra time isn't going to help. it only helps if you have a disability that makes you work more slowly.
