I’m assisting Trees for Life with the Wild Pine Project to locate unrecorded remnants of Scotland’s Caledonian Pine Forests.
In Gleann Fionnlighe nr Fort William we cored several old trees. My analysis shows the oldest originate in early 1600s so very probably wild, not planted.

Happy St Brigid’s Day!
The cult of St Brigid travelled beyond Ireland, including to Wales. In the CHERISH project we collaborated with colleagues in Wales researching sites at risk from climate change, including the lime kiln at St Brides Haven #CHERISHlegacy #RCAHMW @aberuni.bsky.social

This stone slab is intricately decorated across the whole of its underside. The Discovery Programme scanned it in 2014 & re-processed the data in 2024 as part of the #5Dculture project

A stone staircase built of uneven slabs winds its way up inside a dark drystone tower, with steep walls to either side
A simply extraordinary Iron Age staircase, preserved within the wall thickness of the ruinous #Broch tower at Dun Carloway, Isle of Lewis, in the Outer #Hebrides.
The sophisticated pre-Roman architecture here blew me away when I saw it this June - a real bucket-list moment
