Good @irishexaminer.bsky.social piece by Colin Sheridan.

Viewed from high up on a steep hillside, a large Scots pine tree in foreground has a strong dark stem outline with several branches reaching for the misty sky supporting a large green canopy. Other mature pine are sparsely dotted over the hilly landscape and glen in background. Ground colours are yellow brown of bracken and moorland grasses. Iโm assisting Trees for Life with the Wild Pine Project to locate unrecorded remnants of Scotlandโs Caledonian Pine Forests.
In Gleann Fionnlighe nr Fort William we cored several old trees. My analysis shows the oldest originate in early 1600s so very probably wild, not planted.

Glad to talk on Rosslare Fort today in Belfast at the Irish Post Medieval Archaeology Group conference. It is the 100th anniversary of the abandonment of Rosslare Fort in Wexford this year after the storm on Christmas Eve 1924 turned it into an island #CHERISHlegacy @discoveryprogramme.bsky.social
09.02.2025 20:38 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Happy St Brigidโs Day!
The cult of St Brigid travelled beyond Ireland, including to Wales. In the CHERISH project we collaborated with colleagues in Wales researching sites at risk from climate change, including the lime kiln at St Brides Haven #CHERISHlegacy #RCAHMW @aberuni.bsky.social
The CHERISH project is up for a Current Archaeology Award!! Give us a vote if you can!

Decorated Roof Stone, East Recess
This stone slab is intricately decorated across the whole of its underside. The Discovery Programme scanned it in 2014 & re-processed the data in 2024 as part of the #5Dculture project

Fortunate to be continuing the #CHERISH legacy now with @discoveryprogramme.bsky.social
When I'm not doing outreach #archaeology & climate heritage in #Ireland with The Discovery Programme, I'm generally found hanging with these guys & @epiphytic.bsky.social ๐ฑ

A simply extraordinary Iron Age staircase, preserved within the wall thickness of the ruinous #Broch tower at Dun Carloway, Isle of Lewis, in the Outer #Hebrides.
The sophisticated pre-Roman architecture here blew me away when I saw it this June - a real bucket-list moment

It's time to get the conversation going here on climate change and cultural heritage. Here's a starter pack I made. Let me know if you'd like to get on or off it. #ClimateHeritage
