so is anyone working on a GDPR case against Discord because from the EDPB guidance on age assurance they seem to be following approximately zero of the recommendations

To my fellow EU citizens:
to ask your ID, Discord must first comply with the GDPR.

So they need to send you a privacy policy, stating (among other things):
-the reason of the request
-who they are and what they do with your personal data
-asking only the data needed
-make sure the data is secured

If you are in the EU (GDPR) or California (CCPA), you have legal rights to your data. So, if thousands of users simultaneously request their full data archives, this will create a massive administrative and technical burden on Discord. 2/6

This bs answer is still not good enough. Not even close. There's nothing "exciting" about this bs, about how it can make it harder for communities to grow and form. For example, that separate inbox? I once got a DM there, didn't see it in 3 months because it's fucking hidden. Keep the pressure on.

discord storing my personal info is not actually required to run their service (theyve been found gdpr violators in the past) nor is it necessary for them to do digital phrenology on images of me, or to feed chats and channels into an AI to decide if its adult or not..

If they're going down this path, then they need to hold companies liable for the inevitable data breaches. I probably have 3 or 4 lifetimes' worth of free identity monitoring from all the times companies have leaked my personal data. And that is only going to get worse as this proliferates.

Ungrounded moral panic probably caused by people who are in the Epstein Files, no less.

The kind of people that we should actually be going after. Not ordinary folks just trying to use the internet.

The patchwork worldwide legal framework resulting from the ungrounded moral panic over people under 18 using the internet has a lot of us making extremely unpleasant choices. The blame lies on the governments mandating them.

While this absolutely sucks, we are going to see a lot more places implementing universal global age verification over this next year, because the number of states and countries legally requiring it has gotten to the point no one can keep up anymore.
