I vet everyone I follow and those who follow me back. It's a chore, but it is the world wide web we live in. It's why I created this account specifically to separate my interests. I don't get followed by politicos or most bots. Just bookworms & studious-types.

No. I think you are doing the work. Building the community & bringing people together. That is worth celebrating ๐พ & although you may feel it's a bit much, it is well deserved. Not many would take the time to connect the dots as you have. So, #Bravo to you, you history crusader!! ๐๐ฆธโโ๏ธ๐

Very interesting. It was my first encounter with such a soldier in my own lineage. I've seen plenty KIA, MIA, POW, deserters, etc... but that was new. Thanks for that tidbit, much appreciated ๐

I've not run across one in my own family tree before. I've had a few POW's (Gettysburg) but no "both sides" soldiers. My Virginians were "Charlotte Greys" under Lee's N.VA. army, surrendering at #Appomattox

George Washington Lane was the first (and to my knowledge, the only) soldier to enlist in both the CSA & US Army during the Civil War (1861-1865). He enlisted with Co E 8th KY Infantry CSA at Hopkinsville, KY. @kentuckygenealogy.bsky.social #genealogy #LigonFamilyProject

I've come across a few like that. When I do, I try to find a death certificate to add to the FGV memorial & send a suggestion edit. It's up the memorial Mgr to accept or reject those. I just keep rolling, not gonna argue with folks, too damn auld for that bs. Take it or leave it. #originalrecords

Lol... those are just the horrific ones. There are many more pleasant tidbits, some tragic (infant loss) until vaccines, and others great struggles, migrations, and lineages. Finding the unexpected ๐ฒ and the courage & strength to get on in such adversity.

I just took a keek in the library and didn't see it. Have it on order now. Watched a documentary on French Brides to Canada ๐จ๐ฆ looking for evidence of such in published works. My spouses French ancestors and a few of mine may be among them, they go back to that period.

#Genealogy has never been "boring" imho. I found a relative who was murdered (VA), one who murdered his wife with an ice-pick (TX), and so many tantalizing tidbits throughout a 400+ yr history of founders, framers & immigrants.

It's quite battered from use. And we took it out to reproduce the photos once. It's in storage now, but we have found who each of these folks were through careful research & tracing the family tree. Some of these tin-types date back to origins of photography w/tax stamps
