A low-angle, eye-level perspective looking through a large, weathered stone archway of the Pont Neuf bridge in Paris. The ground is paved with uneven cobblestones, and to the left, a small portion of the Seine river is visible. In the distance, through the arch, a single person walks along a path lined with green trees. The overall atmosphere is historic and serene, captured under a pale sky.

A black pen (in a crosshatch technique) and black printing ink (applied with a roller) illustration on off white paper of a Signalman and his box. The man stands at the foot of the stairs to his signalbox which is situated at the bottom of a rocky and wooded ravine. The box is illuminated from within, its light casts shadows of the man onto a railway track, the track runs into a dark and damp tunnel. Outside of the mouth of the tunnel stands a ghostly figure waving its arms, one across its face the other in the air. A gloomy and atmospheric scene.
Iโm making my originals for The Signalman available to purchase. I doubt theyโll ever be published and theyโre just sitting in a drawer, Iโd like to think that theyโre on a wall somewhere (and that Iโve got some brass for them!).
Soonโฆwatch this space.

Say what you will about the Anglo-Irish gentry, they did have a talent for names. Today I came across Middleton Westrena Biddulph of Rathrobin, Mountbolus, and his brother Assheton of Moneyguyneen House, Kinnitty.

It could be used with intention, e.g. the singular to emphasise denial of personhood ('The staff is nice enough' = your character doesn't acknowledge them as individuals), but mostly it just needs to sound right. You're eloquent, even in mundane posts, so you can safely go with your gut ๐ฅ

'England have scored a goal,' but 'England is sending troops,' that sort of thing. A flock of birds is likely singular.
