I'm on my local library board - ymmv, but our library sets the limit at 5 borrows per person per month bc the library pays for every single borrow. Our library is small and Hoopla is relatively expensive for us (but a great service for patrons!).

If you're a writer - have you done any virtual writing courses/accountability groups (paid or free) that you would recommend?

I'm looking for something focused on getting words on the page more consistently.

All of this to say - if we're going to toss up our hands and do nothing about climate change, we should be investing in better weather technology so cities can handle extreme events that they aren't used to seeing.

In Iowa, the meteorologists would have tracked this shit at the block level. They would have been saying, "Oak and Divis, this storm will be on you in three minutes. Sutter and Stockton, you have five minutes."

Like, my inner Iowan is enraged that I couldn't pull up a clear high-res radar or any real info about rotation location.

Even more enraged that the TV newscaster just said "there's a tornado warning in SF, and up in the North Bay the rain is clearing out" like those were equivalent things.

I just experienced my first-ever San Francisco tornado warning (while in a hotel on the 11th floor 😬).

I defend San Francisco from the judgments of my Iowa family all the time, but I gotta say....San Francisco weather radar suuuuuucks compared to the Midwest.

The newest Haruki Murakami book (THE CITY AND ITS UNCERTAIN WALLS) is on its way to me.

I love that Murakami is revisiting a world he created 40yrs ago. In an interview, he said he didn't have the skill to fully tell it then (which is crazy - I loved the first book).
