Covered in layers of sand, solvents and oil while repairing machinery in the vicinity of molten metal. The rest of the time I try to contact strangers with whatever I can use as an antenna, photograph everything and disappear into books.

I won't have time to watch for a couple more hours, but that certainly got my attention!

The things I would do for the return of factory service manuals instead of chat bots (that still carry outrageous subscription fees). Just venting, but that's been the most aggravating iteration of all-things-ai for me lately.

In that moment, recalling 20y/o me in '00, in warehouses that once stood where Amazon offices are today was no longer 'just a few years ago' and I felt every day of that time difference hit all at once

A few years ago while getting a haircut, the barber told me how excited she was about the rave she had tickets for. I don't think I can recall anything else about that day because I couldn't wrap my mind around the idea of a rave that doesn't begin with deciphering a flyer, let alone needing tickets

I thought I would get about a week of lunch breaks out of this. No such luck, couldn't set it down Friday night and finished it Saturday morning.

Skidding to a stop in front of a crosswalk is certainly one way to learn the ABS isn't working properly.

All of the shots ended up where the salmon were barely discernable from rocks too. Video could have come out alright, but I need to get more familiar with it on that camera for things beyond Zoom/Teams calls.

River with rocky beach in the foreground, trees and a partly cloudy sky. Camera on a tripod with a bag steadying it also in the foreground pointed toward the river.

Trying to get some pics of the pink salmon spawn on the Snoqualmie river this morning. I have no idea if any are any good yet.

I really need to make it a point to get into BC more. Is the one pic from Coquilla Canyon?

It certainly lives up to the name, it just has the misfortune of having comparatively large parking lots at trailheads in an area that has seen rapid growth.
Ptarmigan Ridge is a treat! I need to get there again. It was both perfect and every kind of wrong for breaking in the new boots I wore.

It's Time to Stop Hiking the Enchantments Yeah, I said it.

3 years ago the author called it "Washington's Most Spectacular Hike" which I would have disagreed with then and even more-so today. The problems highlighted today pre-date the staff getting DOGE'd.

Normally I have a good chance of seeing turkey vultures in this spot at least through September, but haven't seen any for a bit over a month. Kind of a bummer for my breaks at work.

I asked for everything I could get since I don't know what will be available for how much longer. As luck would have it, all the work so far today has been over-head so my shoulders are cooked.

Got vaxxed before RFK Jr's brain worm could prevent it. A bit surprised the pharmacy wasn't crowded though. Even prior to covid it seemed like there was always a line each fall.

I'm not going to get rid of the Eotech, Aimpoint's, etc, because they are outstanding in more particular ways, but for simply getting a repeatable dot superimposed on a target they aren't 3-12x better than that "temp" Romeo.

FWIW, I put a "temporary" Romeo5 on a carbine in 2019 that's still running fine. I think I changed the batteries once and it has had at least monthly use for five of those six years.

There's some circumstances where idling for a bit before shutting down is called for, but not ten minutes and likely not what your neighbor drives. I'll 'fess up to being the jerk that idles the truck while clearing snow from the windows, but even those occasions are maybe three minutes.

I've mostly used the tablets as an extra measure after filtering since my oldest filter didn't get down to the smallest stuff. A Sawyer Mini is always in my bag now, but I'll still bring the Pur/Katadyn Hiker if filtering for a group or if I know that water will be tricky to reach.

I've been using these water purification tablets on longer hikes for about four years and despite having read the directions numerous times, the part about waiting four hours is only standing out now. All this time I've been waiting 30 minutes at best.

I'm definitely revisiting it for occasions where I row intervals, and apparently for pest control now too, but for the hour steady pace stuff...nope.

Any chance you know how to ask them when they'll have their fill so I can get a bite up the river?

If my heart explodes tonight can someone tell the medical examiner that it wasn't cool drugs or exotic supps it was setting my rowing pace tonight to a playlist titled "Dark German Techno"? Thanks!
