Gotta agree here. It’s like saying “during AIDS.” HIV never went anywhere; it can cause serious illness - though thankfully it’s somewhat manageable now.

But referring to it, or COVID, in the past tense can downplay the risk and contribute to the common belief that the danger is over.

This is great news, but I can’t help but wonder if our provincial health authorities (I’m in BC) will once again throw up roadblocks to anyone who doesn’t fit their narrow definition of “deserving.” Fingers crossed but not holding my breath.

Suet is a big hit here on Gabriola Island, BC! It’s cool to see the little birds poking around on the ground under the feeder for the crumbs dropped by the big birds. Very symbiotic ☯️🐤

In addition to our Pileated friend we’ve seen Downie, Hairy and Flickers - I think we live in Woodpecker Central!

We’re so privileged to have this guy drop in for a snack in our front yard almost every day!
