my statement on Ai from the mini-comic I'm making as syllabus for a new class I'm teaching this fall. It's simple, but I pretty much said all I have to say on it - it robs you of decisions and struggle - and the joy of being surprised. It robs you of learning...

I believe AI is a tool. The electric drill certainly robs you of the calorie burn of turning the screw manually. But it also builds a damn fine house.

So when someone types a prompt for an image, or points a camera and clicks the shutter, or decides to dance beautifully with accompanying music. Or simply decides to be an artist... They are by definition making choices. They are making decisions. They are looking into the void and screaming.

As if... people with a passion for something wouldn't strive to learn more and dig deeper and have an undying drive to just make work and express themselves through that work. as if, right?

So, this is all leading to this point I want to make. That being an artist is a path everyone takes for themselves. Learning the basics will always make someone who wants to explore how to express themselves through visuals to feel more fulfilled.
