Social connection is important for mental health but can be a difficult first step without strong friend group/family support, that might naturally occur in a team sport that requires parental support to get into.
Find a good first rung on the ladder. It may be different than for hockey players.
It’s after nights like that I especially miss Bruce McCurdy.
