19th Century romance. A seated woman and a kneeling man embrace and kiss in a middle-class location, as indicated by well-made furniture, discreet wallpaper, potted houseplants, and a modesty screen for dressing or other private functions. The woman wears a long and very loose gown. Her hair is up. The man wears 19th century business attire. It’s a daguerreotype, so they probably had to hold the pose for several minutes, but the photographer was able to capture a feeling of passionate spontaneity despite the limitations of early picture-taking technology.
